Doing the social media marketing just for the sake of doing it is not the right reason to do it and it won’t take your business anywhere. There is a right place for everything and everything needs to be at the right place. Same is applicable for posting your content on a right platform. Dumping the content won’t lead you anywhere rather there has to be a focussed approach. Before you begin to market your products or services on social platforms, you need to raise pretty lot of questions to yourself. 

What is the product or service I want to market?

What will be the area of my operations or supply, i.e. region?

What I want to achieve from a social media platform? And why I want to do it?

What is my budget?

Who is my target audience?

A precise answer to each of these questions will act like a true guide in your journey ahead.

Each platform has a different set of audiences with different motives of joining the platform. 

LinkedIn is the World’s largest professional network. It has more than 750 million members from more than 200 countries and territories. The basic motive of companies and people to join LinkedIn is to make professional connections. This channel is best suitable for B2B products and services. LinkedIn is a very powerful tool if one can utilize it in a proper way. However, you will have a challenge growing your network and promoting your offerings if you have a bad habit of sleeping on the platform. The more you will remain active, the better will be your chances.

Facebook is also one of the biggest social networking platform with around 3 billion active users from the globe. It is a platform which provides lot of informative content about your connections, local, national or global issues, about products and has lot of entertaining stuff as well. You can use this channel for promoting B2C, D2C and even B2B products and services.  

Twitter has almost 192 million daily active users. Most of the users are between 35 and 65 years of age. And the statistics says that the ratio of females to males account holders is 35:65. Tweets and retweets help to spread the word, information, blog stories, article links and latest news to a large number of people. Main motive of twitter users is to keep them updated with latest news and developments. One can easily find top brands like Amul, McDonald’s, Starbucks, Calvin Klein and many more on Twitter. 

Pinterest ranks 14th among the largest platforms and has around 459 million active users monthly with 60% women users. It is a good platform for discovering new products and generating new ideas. People look for review of the product here before actually buying the product. This channel has shown good results for D2C and B2C offerings. 

Instagram enjoys nearly 1 billion monthly active users. One can find more of young generation who are interested in new products, groups, pictures. It has a huge potential to reach out directly to interested audience without putting a lot of strain on your budgets. Food, clothes, clubs, gyms, gadgets, etc. are followed by users. 

YouTube is good enough if you want to connect with your target audience through videos. 2-3 billion persons use YouTube worldwide. You can generate views and hence may expect more business. 

Although there are lot of other channels also like Tik-Tok (banned in India), Snapchat, etc. but the above mentioned platforms are more famous and rewarding as of now. 

Put the right content at the right time on the right platform with your target customers and you will surely be able to generate better business.
